Excited to announce my upcoming solo debut album in collaboration with Linn Records - featuring the vibrant colours of Godowsky's Java Suite! It was a real joy recording this album earlier this year, of a piece that is so dear to me and that has since grown ever closer.

Full of fragrant, intoxicating sounds, the piece was inspired by the culture, landscapes, architecture and entrancing harmonies of the island of Java. - Linn Records

I've been fortunate to be able to present the Java Suite in an array of performances now - from Wigmore Hall to my recent Malaysia tour - and it is a great pleasure to feature this masterwork combining East and West in my first solo album, releasing in full on 12 December 2025.

This album release celebrates 100 years since the publishing of Java Suite. Written after one of Godowsky's concert tours in the 1920s - in which the eminent pianist performed no fewer than twenty recitals on the island of Java, then part of the Dutch East Indies - the twelve-part work had its inspiration in the "marvelous scenery and picturesque inhabitants; huge volcanoes, active and extinct; majestic ruins and imposing monuments" of this island which so fascinated him. Above all, it was the "native music of the Javanese, in the heart of Java, at Djokja and Solo that made the most profound impression".

A passionate performer – and composer – of wide-ranging music, Julian gives an enticing account; a valuable addition to the Royal Academy of Music Bicentenary Series.

The album was created in partnership with Linn Records, as part of the Royal Academy of Music Bicentenary Series. Deepest thanks to Linn Records and the Royal Academy of Music for making this recording into reality. The album is currently digital only, and will be available on all streaming services.
